mmm guinea pig
took [info]theamazingtalyn to the vet yesterday. we have a new vet who is totally amazing (the old one moved to the east coast). her name is patricia lowe. she knew EVERYTHING, unlike the last guy who i had to edumacate a few times. she was impressed that we had him in a cavy cage, understood (after seeing him try to assert his dominance in the room with us to prove he was in charge) and agreed with our reasons why we haven't tried to pair him up with another boar just yet, and confirmed a few things that the last vet said (that his piggie dandruff is a by product of his bad lice infestation as a baby and that the spur like thing on his front paw should be ignored). the funny thing is. . . she said talyn is a bit fat! since he's on cavy cuisine (which is just compressed pellets - no fillers or sugars) the only thing we can do is figure out an "exercise routine" and do weekly weigh-ins. like dice said "you should call it GuiniiFit". ha! i proceeded to call talyn "fatty mcchan" and "my little tub o love" all night and wolf giggled at me. was also singing the "hey fat boy" song. . .

mmm guinea pig
we take talyn to the vet tonight for his annual "wellness visit" and a badly needed nail trim. i hate taking him to the vet b/c he gets so stressed out about it. and he stays mad at me for two days afterwards. he'll be just fine with wolf, purring up a storm and being all affectionate. but the moment i try to pet him he'll run away and chatter his teeth. :( maybe this time will be different since i'm making wolf come with us.

attack!
talyn has lice. i'm thoroughly grossed out now. at least it's the animal kind, which don't like to go for humans. they gave him a shot, and i have to bleach everything he's touched. talyn was freaked the fuck out at all noises in the office, but he "was very well-behaved for a guinea pig" according to the nurse who clipped his nails. i liked the doctor very much but could have done without the nurse/office staff. they brought him back to me after giving him the shot and clipping his nails, and then i waited in line for a full 12 minutes while they talked with someone who was possibly going to adopt a dog next week. wtf, all i need to do is pay and leave! and then, because we were waiting so long, talyn peed in the box (he didn't go the entire rest of the visit, which lasted a good 45 minutes). one of the 3 nurses behind the counter said "you're leaking" and then all 3 stood there and watched me. uhm, there isn't much i can do other than hold the box away from me. finally one asks if i want a towel. . . uh, duh! she hands me a towel over the counter and then watched as i attemptted to balance the wet box, the squirming guinea pig, and the towel all while standing in the center of the lobby floor. not one of the nurses tried to come out from behind the counter and help. then one went and got a new box for me, while the other two seemed extremely annoyed at the situation, yelling back to someone that "we need a mop out here, a guinea pig peed everywhere". yeah. . . i hand the towel back to the person, who looks really grossed out that she has to take it from me. the janitor girl came out as i was leaving to mop it up and was like "where's the pee? oh, that's all??". i said i was sorry and no one said "it's okay" or "it happens all the time". instead they looked at me like i'd just done something horrid, didn't thank me for my business, say goodbye, or anything remotely friendly. i know it's the end of the day, but dood, you work in a fucking vet's office. animal accidents should be a common occurence. i'm not so sure i want to go back there.
