took theamazingtalyn to the vet yesterday. we have a new vet who is totally amazing (the old one moved to the east coast). her name is patricia lowe. she knew EVERYTHING, unlike the last guy who i had to edumacate a few times. she was impressed that we had him in a cavy cage, understood (after seeing him try to assert his dominance in the room with us to prove he was in charge) and agreed with our reasons why we haven't tried to pair him up with another boar just yet, and confirmed a few things that the last vet said (that his piggie dandruff is a by product of his bad lice infestation as a baby and that the spur like thing on his front paw should be ignored). the funny thing is. . . she said talyn is a bit fat! since he's on cavy cuisine (which is just compressed pellets - no fillers or sugars) the only thing we can do is figure out an "exercise routine" and do weekly weigh-ins. like dice said "you should call it GuiniiFit". ha! i proceeded to call talyn "fatty mcchan" and "my little tub o love" all night and wolf giggled at me. was also singing the "hey fat boy" song. . .

we take talyn to the vet tonight for his annual "wellness visit" and a badly needed nail trim. i hate taking him to the vet b/c he gets so stressed out about it. and he stays mad at me for two days afterwards. he'll be just fine with wolf, purring up a storm and being all affectionate. but the moment i try to pet him he'll run away and chatter his teeth. :( maybe this time will be different since i'm making wolf come with us.

in guinea_pigs someone posted you know you're a guinea pig slave when. . .. best post ever. pretty much all of them apply to me, and most to wolf.

*picking up poo doesn't faze you anymore
*your piggy has his own section on your grocery shopping list...cilantro, carrots, lettuce...
*You feed your piggies before you feed yourself/your spouse/significant other/kids
*If your piggies wheek and your boyfriend talk to you at the same time, you answer to the piggies first.
* you wander the produce section of the store specifically trying to decide what should be purchased that the piggies will eat/enjoy and that you can enjoy some of too
* you schedule your shopping trips around when the piggies need more lettuce
* when hay on the floor doesn't faze you anymore
* you never stay overnight anywhere because they will be upset if they don't get fed on time
* even if you don't feel well and didn't get to bed until 3am, you still get up at 7am to feed them their breakfast, refresh their water and give new pellets
*You have more pictures of the pig than you do of your spouse/child/other loved ones. overall this isn't true, but i find it funny that the only picture i carry on my person is of talyn
*Brace yourself for loud wheeking whenever you rustle a bag or open the refrigerator door.
*you get excited about firm poos

*your piggie goes to the vet for check ups more frequently than you go to the doctor.
*you put off your own haircut to have the money to get your piggie's nails trimmed.
*you eat an orange (or some other fruit) just because you know the piggie will want a bite.
*you pay your friend to house-sit so your piggie can stay happy in his cavy cage during your honeymoon.
*you feel you deserve it when the piggie is sore at you for being gone for a week even though it was your friggin honeymoon!

happy new year! while you're out getting drunk and dancing your butt off, i'll be snuggling with a guinea pig and a wolf, drinking rose champagne from westover, and watching the twilight zone marathon. hopefully i can stay awake past 10 this year. yay for getting old and boring!

talyn is doing this ADORABLE thing of pointing his nose to the ceiling as high as he possibly could and then wanting me to squirt the meds down his gullet. he sticks his tongue out and laps it up all the while. who knew piggie tongue was so long?

talyn had blood in his urine yesterday. it's either a UTI or bladder stones (that second link has a rather nasty image). didn't get much sleep last night. earliest open vet appt is at 2pm. poor lil guy does this crying sounding squeak every time he pees or poops. :(

back from the vet. got meds. if they don't work within a week it's stones and he gets an xray to confirm it. the vet pushed somewhere near his balls and this HUGE penis popped out. like nearly 2 inches long and about as big around as a pencil. who knew that was in my little talyn?!?!

* i haven't been keeping up with livejournal the past several weeks. if you got one of my few comments, feel lucky! if something important happened, tell me now.

* had a blast in reno friday and saturday. lost $80 the first day. won $50 the second day. the star wars penny machine on the second floor of fitzgeralds is my new love. tried playing real keno, and the penny 20 card machine got jealous and let me win $20. lunch buffet at fitzgeralds is awesome. cept for the dessert.

* did a crazy 6 hour round of shopping sunday. oh, how i love it that wolf enjoys shopping almost as much as i do. got a new cell phone, a set of tv trays, a new journal, a new stitchery, books from thrift town, amongst other things. wolf scored a pair of dj headphones from 70's for five bucks --just like the ones he used at his first college radio station.

* i've already forgotten to charge the new cell phone.

* yesterday i got a new guinea pig!!! someone bought a pregnant piggie from petco and this was the one baby they couldn't get rid of. he was up for adoption at the store. he's only a month and a half old, so tiny!! all black cept for a spot of brown on his nose. i haven't figured out a name yet. he was zooming around his cage yesterday, once he got used to the new digs. too friggin cute.

* yes i'll be posting pictures of everything soon (yay for the new camera).

* wednesday through friday is the coastal cleanup day coordinators conference in pacific grove (near monterey). i'll be there, taking notes and helping organize everything. a new ccd sponsor, barefoot winery, donated hecka wine when they signed up as a sponsor. we're breaking it out for the reception. this should make for some entertaining photos.
